PARIS

A city of art museums, historic cafes, and monuments with renowned fashion houses and cabarets. Home of bohemians, chefs, and couturiers; related to icons such as Coco Chanel, Quasimodo and Daft Punk; Paris has a lot to offer.

Paris is known for its museums, boutiques, restaurants plus its baroque palaces, gothic churches and the Seine. Its modern but old, conservative yet revolutionary, bohemian and boujee at the same time. Within the art world it plays a huge role in the academia and art market spheres; and outside of it, it’s important in the fashion, culinary and beauty worlds. Many iconic artist, designers, philosophers, architects and food have emerged from this city. Think of Eugene Delacroix, Pierre Renoir, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Rene Descartes, Voltaire, Louis Le Vau, Le Corbusier, French pastries or fondue. There’s a lot to check out but if you only have a limited amount of time I would make sure to visit 1 museum, eat at a nice restaurant, drink a cafe on the Champs Elysees, relax in a gothic/baroque church, watch a cabaret show around Montmartre, walk around Le Marais, go to a blue chip gallery at Avenue Matignon and take a picture in front of the Eiffel Tower and/or Arch du Triumph. If you have more time you should try to cruise up and down the seine river, shop around the 8 arrondissement or Canal St Martin, buy some beauty products, read a French philosopher at the Luxembourg Gardens and get lost in the Latin Quarter.

Here are some recommendations of places to visit. Paris has 2 unesco sites: the banks of the Seine River and the architecture of Le Courbusier, but really close you have other 3 sites: the palaces of Fontainebleau and Versailles, plus the town of Provins. The city has 130 ‘Michelin restaurants’ with 10 having 3 stars, so try to make a reservation to one of them. My top 5 museums are: The Louvre museum for antiquities; the Musee d’Orsay for Impressionist art; the Centre Pompidou for avant garde art; La Galerie Dior for Fashion; and The Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac for a little bit of everything. My favorite art galleries are: Perrotin, Mennour, Almine Rech, plus the 2 lords Hauser & Wirth, and Gagosian. For luxury shopping go to Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré or the department store Galeries Lafayette; for jewelry place Vendôme, for the typical brands go to the Champs Elysees; and for cheaper goods Canal St Martin. Also take a chance to walk up and down Av. Montaigne, the epicenter of couture. Some venues to check out are Palais Garnier for opera and theater; Point Éphémère for alternative music, Moulin Rouge for a cabaret show and La Villete for concerts.
